How to choose a fleet safety supplier

Safety is one of, if not the most important consideration for fleet operators and ensuring the safety of not only their drivers, but other road users as well, often involves the implementation of fleet safety solutions. So, how should you choose the right fleet technology supplier?

We recently conducted a poll and found that ‘product/service features’ and ‘level of service and support’ were the 2 most important factors that affected the decision. In fact, 60% of respondents cited the features as the most important! The rate of change and development in vehicle safety has been rapid in recent times. What was previously regarded as ‘exceptional’ is now mainstream for most of the industry.

There is now an expectation that fleet operators should have sufficient technology fitted to their vehicles to proactively protect road users, along with the ability to quickly access data, as required to retrospectively investigate incidents. In addition to this, camera data is being sought out by many businesses as a key part of their total fleet management solution – with a requirement to access live data 24/7 and package up footage to accompany other operational activities. Contel’s approach has been referred to as ‘solutions-minded’, as we work with our customers to ensure we have a full understanding of their needs, and we continually invest in ongoing innovation and development of our solutions.

‘Level of Service and Support’ coming second in our poll doesn’t surprise us. Our experience in the industry has shown that lack of ongoing support from some suppliers is often where businesses feel most let down. Contel has been built on a ‘Service Before Sales’ ethos and runs throughout everything we do. To us, what we offer is about much more than just selling fleet safety products; it’s about ensuring our customers maximise their ROI and truly make use of the technology, whilst receiving five-star customer service.

In our poll, ‘Cost’ and ‘Supplier Experience’, weren’t highlighted by any respondents as a priority. However, between us all, the Contel team offer decades of operational, engineering and development experience, all gained in the fleet management industry. Everything we’ve learnt and experienced over the years goes into what we can offer to our customers. So, although other factors were highlighted in our poll as more important when choosing a fleet safety supplier, experience and cost effectiveness come as standard with Contel!
